Repairing two mid century teak chairs

The owner of these mid-century teak chairs inherited them from her uncle. The wood had been very well maintained, but the joints had loosened and someone had repeatedly glued them back together throughout the years.

These chairs are held together by dowels, which are glued into fitted holes. If the old glue is not properly removed, any added glue will not properly adhere to the wood, the joints will loosen prematurely and the wood legs will crack from too much slack.

Fortunately, these chairs were still salvageable. They were carefully taken apart, the split wood was repaired, old glue was removed and new dowels were installed. 

Here they are after being freshly oiled. Be still me heart...
